Abstract
830,525. Determining weight and moisture content. TOWNSON & MERCER Ltd. April 8, 1958 [April 15, 1957], No. 12198/57. Class 40 (1). [Also in Groups XVIII and XX] An apparatus for measuring the moisture content of materials comprises a balance housed in a hermetically sealed case 2, 3, which can be placed under vacuum and an infra-red lamp 9 which dries the sample in pan 14. In operation a moist sample is placed on the pan and a torsion wire 17 which supports the balance beam 18 is stressed by rotation of a screw 29 to move pointer 23 to the zero of scale 26 then, after the sample has-been dried, a drum 41 is rotated to return .the pointer 23 to zero and the percentage moisture content of the sample is indicated by a scale (not shown) on the periphery of drum 41. The drum may be rotated manually or by a reversible electric motor which is controlled by contacts or photoelectric means operated by upward and downward movement of the beam, and a pen is provided to mark the rate of drying on the flat end surface of drum 41. In a modification (Fig. 8), the pan 14 carries an armature 75 which co-operates with an electromagnet 76 the current in which is used to indicate the weight of the sample in the pan.
