Abstract

830,507. Splints. SUTER, F. E., [Representative of SUTER, W. F.]. Feb. 14, 1956 [Feb. 14, 1955], No. 4379/55. Class 81 (2). In a splint pivoted at the knee by a caliper joint the two side members 1, 2 are jointed on a pivot-pin 8 passing through two wing extensions 6 on member 1 and a tongue or eye member extending from member 2. A spring 9 is adjustably secured to the member 1, at one end, while its other end is connected through an inextensible connection, such as a chain 4, to the lug on side member 2. In the bent positions of the joint the chain runs over a roller 13 mounted between the extensions 6. Preferably the pivot-pin 8 is located behind the centre line of the side members 1, 2, when these are aligned, so that the imposition of a load on the joint tends to prevent it bending.
