Abstract

830,466. Copy - milling. NAPIER & SON Ltd., D. July 27, 1956 [June 1, 1955], No. 15746/55. Class 83 (3). A copying-machine comprises a platform 27 pivoted on a horizontal axis 28 and having work-, and pattern-holding means, means 36 for urging the platform about its axis, to engage the work and pattern with a tool and follower, means for traversing the platform, and means for feeding the platform transversely. The platform 27 is carried on a slide 4 which is traversed on a table 2 by hydraulic means incorporating a fixed piston 7, Fig. 4, a reversing valve 72, and a flow-control valve 77. The table 2 is fed by a piston 50 in increments determined by an adjustable metering valve 59, which permits a measured quantity of fluid to pass to exhaust at each actuation of a solenoidoperated valve 56, there being a by-pass valve 63 to permit rapid approach movements. The platform carries two turbine-blade blanks 30, one convex-, and one concave-side uppermost, and a corresponding pattern 31. The cutter 41 and the follower 42, having the same effective contact surface, are mounted on a support 43. In operation, the table 2 is fed at its fast approach speed until a switch on the table operates the valve 63, to introduce the intermittent feed, and a valve 67, to actuate the piston 36, thus moving the platform into working position. The slide 4 then reciprocates and, at each end of the travel, the table 2 is advanced by microswitches 84 actuated by stops 82, 83. The stop 83 is moved progressively by a cam 86 to impart a desired shape to one end of each blade. The table is lowered by actuation of a further switch when machining is complete. Work-holders.-Thin blades may be mounted on beds shaped to fit their reverse surfaces. Framings.-A wall 32 surrounds the platform 27 to collect lubricant.
