Abstract

830,381. Moulding reinforced concrete slabs. DUROX INTERNATIONAL S. A. Oct. 12, 1956 [Oct. 14, 1955; May 29, 1956], No. 31160/56. Class 87(2). Lightweight concrete building units are formed in a mould with reinforcement so positioned as to leave intermediate cross-sectional areas of the unit without reinforcement, allowing the building units to be easily subdivided by sawing. Longitudinal reinforcement rods, which may be joined by transverse rods welded to them, may be held between opposite walls of the mould by tension or may be untensioned and supported by transverse tensioned wires. To apply tension to a rod 8, Fig. 2, its end is clamped by chuck jaws 11 drawn into a sleeve 12 by a nut 9 and when both ends-of the rod are secured tension is applied by a nut 13, threaded on the sleeve 12, against the wall 14 of the mould. The ends of an untensioned reinforcement rod 15, Fig. 3, rest in sockets in holders 18 which pass through the mould walls. Wires 23, Fig. 4, are tensioned at right angles to the rods to support them from below, and may have beads 34 to assist location. A tensioning device at one end of the wire comprises a block 26, to which the end of the wire is secured, with a projecting stud co-operating with a nut 29, the block moving in guides 27 when the nut is tightened. Transverse wires may also be tensioned above the reinforcement rods to prevent the concrete from pushing them up as it expands in the mould. The wire may be tensioned by means independent of the mould walls e.g. weights. When the concrete has expanded and solidified the supporting wires are removed, leaving small harmless holes. The block may be exposed for cutting by turning down the walls of the mould, which are attached by hinges. The walls are raised again and the divided block conveyed in the mould to a curing chamber.
