830,266. Voltage measurement. PYE Ltd. May 9, 1957 [May 9, 1956], No. 14416/56. Class 37. A high-frequency voltmeter comprises a screened head A containing a full-wave crystal rectifier E capacitance-coupled to a H.F. voltage source T 1 , whose unidirectional output voltage is coupled through H.F. filter chokes of high impedance over the working frequency range (preventing H.F. feed to the head from the remainder of the apparatus) and coupling line T 2 , T 3 to potentiometer P 1 of indicating unit B, whose slider is interconnected through a galvanometer with the slider of a batteryenergized comparison potentiometer P 2 ; the rectified voltage and the input voltage being thus measured by null adjustment of the potentiometers, which may incorporate voltage range switching and have dials calibrated in H.F. voltage for a particular input waveform. The rectifier may be biased to an appropriate operating point of its characteristic with an additional battery and variable resistor circuit directed to bucking out the bias voltage across P 1 and zero setting the galvanometer.
