Abstract

830,177. Adhesive bandages. LOHMANN, J., BARTH, G. A., and LOHMANN, K., [trading as LOHMANN K. G.]. Aug. 31, 1956 [Sept. 2, 1955], No. 26760/56. Class 81 (2). [Also in Group VIII] Adhesive bandage material comprises gas and moisture impervious foil with spaced perforations and a layer of adhesive over one face between and spaced from the perforations which are surrounded by adhesive-free areas, the foil being simultaneously perforated and coated with adhesive. The base foil 10 is rubber, metal, a synthetic material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polystyrene or polyamine. The adhesive layer 11 of a synthetic or rubber composition is applied to the base material 24, Fig. 2, from a paste box 25. As the base material 24 passes between the paste box 25 and a roller 20, projections 21 which have flats 22 and are arranged on the roller, intermittently close the paste box outlet to form adhesive free areas 12 and simultaneously needles 23 carried by the projections 21 form perforations 13 in the base material 24. Alternatively, adhesive is applied to the base material by raised portions of a roller. Simultaneously, needles arranged on a counter roller puncture the base material and engage with holes in the first roller. The perforating needles may be heated so that each perforation is formed with a rounded edge.
