Abstract
829,785. Valves. DE VRIES, C. April 19, 1956 [April 20, 1955], No. 11935/56. Class 135. In a valve comprising a valve body having a plurality of transverse connections communicating through ports with a longitudinal bore accommodating a movable plunger having a number of spaced lands on each of which is carried a packing-ring so that on movement of the plunger the ports may be selectively interconnected, the valve body is composed of two or more parts whose adjacent, abutting, faces lie transversely of the bore and in one or both of which is formed a recess surrounding the bore to provide a port open to communication with a transverse connection. As shown in Fig. 2, body parts 2, 2<SP>1</SP> and 26 and end-plates 3 and 4 are secured together by bolts 5 and a plunger 7 having an enlarged head 8 engageable by a spring 10 and pressed downwardly either manually, mechanically, electrically or pneumatically is slidable in a longitudinal bore 6. The body part 26 is formed with an inlet connection 31 communicating with a compressed air source and shallow recesses 27 surrounded by - deeper recesses 29 on its end faces whilst the body parts 2, 2<SP>1</SP> are each formed with a connection 11 leading to atmosphere and radially opposite a connection 12 connected to a double-acting motor and through a duct 14 with the corresponding recess 29 of the body part 26. As shown, compressed air is supplied through the upper connection 12 and exhausted through the lower. On pressing the plunger down these connections are reversed. The upper face of the body part 26 may be made plane and the body part 2<SP>1</SP> dispensed with to provide a three-connection valve or other body parts may be added to increase the number of connections. In a modification, recesses 33, 34, Fig. 3, may be formed in the body parts 2, 21 and recessed washers 35, 36 having a plurality of holes 37 fitted therein to increase the area opening into the bore 6.
