829,713. Yeast funnels and fermentation vats. WATNEY MANN Ltd., [formerly WATNEY COMBE REID & CO. Ltd.]. Aug. 14, 1958 [Aug. 16, 1957], No. 25887/57. Class 14 (2). A fermentation vat 1 is provided with a bottom outlet pipe 5 and a floating funnel for removing yeast 3 from the top of the wort. The funnel is made of non-tainting plastic material, preferably polythene, and has a conical head 8 and a stem 7 of uniform diameter fitting slidingly within the outlet pipe. A flexible bellows seal 11 is clamped to the stem 7 by a band clip 12 and to a gland bush, securing the outlet pipe to the vat, by a slip-ring 13 and nut 14. The head may be hollow, e.g. constructed with a tubular rim, to provide an air-filled buoyancy chamber. Alternately, the funnel may be buoyantly supported below its rim by a separate tyre. A plug 9 actuated by a cord 10 is provided in the funnel.
