829,656. Administering therapeutic fluid. FENWAL LABORATORIES Inc. Jan. 23, 1957 [Jan. 23, 1956], No. 2494/57. Class 81 (2). In blood or other therapeutic fluid-administering apparatus having a fluid-receiving container with a flexible sealable inlet tube, a sample and storing device comprising an inert permeable pouch is connected to the inlet tube through which the pouch receives and dispenses fluid. A blood storage bag 10 is connected by flexible tubing 21 with a phlebotomy needle 22. Intermediate the needle 22 and the bag, a blood sample pouch 30 is connected by a conducting tube. The tubing, bag, and pouch are integrally formed from polyvinyl chloride and the needle is lined with dicocodimethyl ammonium chloride. Valve beads are provided in the inlets to the bag and the pouch respectively. Before use the pouch and the bag are free of air, the bag containing anti-coagulant. After inserting the needle 22 into the patient the conducting tube is deformed around the valve bead of the pouch so that sample blood enters the pouch. The valve bead of the bag is then displaced by manual manipulation of the bag inlet so that blood enters the bag for storage. A knot 27 in the tubing 21 is tightened to seal off the bag. The flexible tubing may be sealed off into sections along its length to provide additional samples, identifying indicia 26 being provided at intervals along the tubing. The bag has several outlet tubes 13 each covered by two tabs 14 sealed together to form a sheath, the tabs being separated or cut so that administering means may be coupled to the outer tubes.
