Abstract

828,804. Spinning yarns. MEIMBERG, J. July 2, 1956 [July 2, 1955(2); July 12, 1955; May 8, 1956; May 17, 1956], No. 20344/56. Class 120(2) [Also in Group XXV] A spinning device has a rotary combing member upon which fibres form a web and a member rotated at a different speed to withdraw continuously the fibres at an angle to the plane of rotation of the combing member. Many embodiments are described; in one, Fig. 1, a sliver is fed by rollers 17 to a porcupine 3 from which fibres are removed by withdrawal through a tube 8 which may rotate on its own axis and is carried round the porcupine by an arm 7 at a speed which is preferably lower than that of the porcupine 3. A bridge member 14 rotates with the tube 8 around the porcupine 3 to lift the sliver delivered by the rollers 17 clear of the tube 8. Rotation of the arm 7 imparts twist to the fibres as they pass towards the delivery rollers 19. Instead of the sliver being fed by a pair of rollers, supplementary porcupines may be employed, either singly or in pairs. In several embodiments, e.g., Fig. 22, porcupines are used to feed slivers to internally toothed members. These internally toothed members may have the teeth carried on bars 204 which are provided with extensions that engage a cam-groove in the supportng body 197 so that the teeth may be moved out of the fibres as the latter pass the withdrawing device 198 carried by the rotatable supporting body 197. The bars 204 may be provided with outwardly directed fan blades to create a suction to draw fibres into the teeth, radial holes being bored in the member that carries the bars 204. Constructions are described wherein internally toothed members have slivers fed to them by pairs of aprons. In one embodiment, a toothed apron feeds sliver through a bore of a casing corresponding to the tube 196. Various devices are described for providing differential rotation between toothed members and withdrawing members, in Fig. 36, the withdrawing member 298 is carried on an arm 299 on which is mounted a gear 300 meshing with a gear on the inner face of the porcupine 295 and also with a gear 302 fixed to a flywheel 303. In others, free-wheel arrangements are provided between the withdrawing and toothed members. Instead of the porcupines or toothed members being pinned, they may have saw-tooth type teeth. The combing device may be made in part of electrostatically chargeable synthetic material, for instance, having an acetate base.
