Abstract
828,613. Electric indicating systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 11, 1957 [Feb. 10, 1956], No. 4307/56. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XIX] To set up a dynamic balancing machine so that the rotational unbalance measured at each of two balancing planes of a rotor is indicative of the unbalance in that plane only, means are provided for feeding predetermined quantities of vibration to each rotor bearing adjusted to produce this effect. As shown, a rotor 3 is supported on bearings 2 carrying moving-coil type transducers 1. A field supply for each transducer is obtained from two potentiometers 4 connected in series, and fed with A.C. from a source 9, firstly through taps 5 which are adjusted for zero reading on a vibrationsensitive transducer 10 in balancing plane 7 of the rotor, and then through taps 6 which are similarly adjusted for zero vibration in balancing plane 8. Rotor 3 is then rotated, and the outputs from taps 5, 6 are taken to meters 12 which indicate the magnitude of the unbalance in planes 7, 8 respectively independently of any unbalance in the other balancing plane.
