Class 89(3) In a stapling machine for attaching identifying tags to garments in which stapling is effected by moving an anvil 32 on a pivoted arm 30 up to a stapling head 13, the anvil 32 carries a tag holder 61, 62 into which the end portion of a tape 90 is pressed by a pivoted U-shaped folder arm 156 to form a tag of V-form. The tape 90 is advanced by a tag length by swinging a manually operable arm 113 anti-clockwise, Fig. 3, a projection on a spring-pressed lever 117 co-operating with one of a number of holes in the tape. The arm 113 is provided with a spring-pressed pawl 131 which co-operates with a shoulder 134 on a member 135 as the arm 113 returns to its normal position to move the member 135 clockwise so as to swing the folder arm 156 anti-clockwise to fold a tag and to operate a spring-pressed lever 231 provided with a pad 233 which prevents retrograde movement of the tape 90. As the anvil arm 30, provided with handles 31 is moved towards the stapling head 13, the ing stapling by lever arms 174 co-operating cutter 200 (not shown) on a shaft 208 through links 211, 217.
