In apparatus for detecting metal objects on a conveyer 1 passing through the field of a coil 6, the coil is so positioned that its field has a component perpendicular to the movement of the conveyer through the field. A further coil 7, oppositely inclined, may also be used and the coils may be inclined in two directions (Fig. 4) while in Fig. 5 a coil bent, as shown, is used, the two sides of the coil being separated by a spacer 13. Specification 574,808 is referred to.
