A " flangeless " rail track wheel has a smoothly curved tread profile which increases in steepness progressively and non-uniformly from a minimum tread diameter 2 at the outer wheel face to a maximum tread diameter 1 at the inner wheel face, the difference in the diameters 1, 2 being sufficient to prevent derailment under the operating conditions of the wheel. The tread profile may be in the form of a half parabola having its vertex at the inner wheel face.
