826,543. Coating webs; coated metal foil laminate. BERGHGRACHT, M. Dec. 6, 1955 [Dec. 6, 1954], No. 35027/55. Class 140. A material suitable for the production of wrappings and containers comprises a base of goffered or corrugated metal foil faced on both sides with flat metal foil secured to the peaks of the goffers or corrugations, a coating of thermoplastic synthetic resinous material being applied to the outer face of one or both flat foils. The thermoplastic synthetic resin may be a polyamide, polyethylene terephthalate, polychlorotrifluoroethylene, or polyvinylidene chloride. A similar resin, possibly having a higher fusion point, or a thermosetting resin, may be used to unite the metal foil layers. The coating may be applied by bringing the thermoplastic resin in the form of a very fine powder into contact with the previously-heated composite metal foil by projecting the powder on to the composite foil, or immersing the foil in the powder. As shown, the composite foil fed from a roll 3, is heated in a furnace 4 and passes through a chamber 5 in which a thermoplastic synthetic resin powder is held in suspension by blowing in nitrogen through tubes 6. The coated foil then passes through cooled calender rolls 7. The product may be heat-sealed.
