Abstract

In a process for the recovery and purification of polymers in which a mixture including a polymer of at least one alpha-olefin, a hydrocarbon and a normally solid chromium oxide polymerization catalyst is filtered to remove the catalyst, there is placed on the filtration surface a quantity of chromium oxide catalyst the surface of which is free from polymer. The polymer has preferably been removed from the catalyst surface by extraction with a solvent. Specified olefins are ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, 1-pentene, 1-hexene and 1,3-butadiene.
