Abstract
825,708. Aircraft undercarriages. RECHERCHES ETUDES PRODUCTION R.E.P. April 19, 1956 [June 23, 1555], No. 12008/56. Class 4. An aircraft undercarriage equiped with skids for use during landing and take off wherein the skids are movable along the ground relative the undercarriage legs to facilitate take-off, comprises a leg 1 provided at its lower end with a pivot 2 to which a skid 10 is attached by a link 4 and a jack 5 which may be extended to cause the skid to move rearwardly relatively to the leg at the commencement of take-off. Further attachments of the skid to the leg comprise links 15, 16 mutually coupled to a jack 14 which serves both as a shock absorber and to adjust the pitching attitude of the skid. A wheel 12 is mounted on each side of skid 10 on an axis coaxial with the pivot 2 so that when the skids are fully raised the aircraft may be manoeuvred on the ground on the wheels 12. Each skid is provided with a stop 13 which comes in contact with the wheels 12 when the skid 10 is moved to its extreme rearward position. A further embodiment is described wherein the skid is moved by a jack laterally with respect to the leg to facilitate stowage within the aircraft. The jack used for this purpose has a piston biassed centrally within the cylinder by springs to enable the skid to rock with respect to leg when travelling over uneven ground.
