Abstract

A dentrifrice comprises at least 0.01% by weight, preferably 0.05 to 0.1%, of 1 : 6-di-41-chlorophenyldiguanidohexane and/or a salt thereof, preferably the diacetate and the digluconate, and a cationic, non-ionic or ampholytic detergent. The non-ionic detergents are preferred, particularly those which are condensation products of ethylene oxide with organic compounds containing at least one free hydroxyl group, such as cetyl alcohol. Specified detergents are: (a) non-ionic : cetyl alcohol-ethylene oxide condensates with or without lauric diethanolamide, octyl phenol-ethylene oxide condensates, polypropylene glycol-ethylene oxide condensates, sorbitan monolaurateethylene oxide condensates and sorbitan monostearate-ethylene oxide condensates; (b) ampholytic : N-lauryl betaine and N-cetyl betaine; (c) cationic : cetyl pyridinium chloride, cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide and di-isobutyl phenoxyethoxyethyldimethylbenzyl ammonium chloride. Specified salts are the dihydrochloride and the dihydrofluoride. Specification 705,838, [Group IV (b)], is referred to.
