Abstract

Yarns or fabrics consisting of or containing wool, which have been prepared on the woollen or worsted principle, are treated for a period within the range 10 secs. to 5 mins. with trichloroethylene or perchloroethylene, preferably held at or near the boiling point, and subsequently for a period within the range 5 secs. to 5 mins. with an aqueous medium at a temperature high enough to cause rapid evaporation of residual solvent. The latter medium may be water at above 73 DEG C. and, before entering it, the material may pass through squeeze rolls. The solvent may be contained in a series of baths through which it is circulated in a counter-direction to the passage of the material. The material may be composed of blends of wool with cotton, regenerated protein, regenerated cellulose or polyester fibres or may be mixed fabrics of these materials.
