Abstract

An ethylene glycol ether of at least one saturated monohydric aliphatic alcohol containing 4-8 carbon atoms, said ether containing at least one -CH2-CH2-O- group per alcohol molecule, is used as the frothing agent in a froth flotation process. Preferably, the alcohol contains 5-8 carbon atoms and the ether contains not more than five -CH2-CH2-O- groups per alcohol molecule. Thus, reaction products of ethylene oxide with one or a mixture of alcohols are suitable. Xanthates of alcohols containing up to 6 carbon atoms may be used as collectors. Materials which may be floated are sulphide, oxide, carbonate and silicate ores, e.g. ores of the metals Pb, Zn, Cu, Mo, Ni, Co. Sb, Sn, W and U, iron pyrites, phosphorite, fluorspar and potassium chloride.
