Abstract

823,946. Thermo-electric devices. METALLIC FLOWERS Inc. Feb. 13, 1956, No. 4410/56. Class 81 (2). [Also in Group XXXVI] A thermo-electric device to be worn on the arm or wrist consists of a thermoplastic plate or disc 1, Figs. 1, 2, carrying a thin metal strip composed of overlapping sections 3, 4 of dissimilar metals. Thus, the sections 3 may be of copper or iron and those 4 of zinc, nickel or constantan. The strip is coated with lacquer or paint of sufficient thickness to serve as an electrical insulator without preventing the flow of heat from the wearer to the strip. The ends of the strip are connected through terminals 7, 8 to chains 9, 11 which may also be formed, of sections of dissimilar metals. In a modification, the ends of the metal strip may be connected to wires 17, 20, Fig. 3, embedded in an elastic fabric body belt 16 carrying thin metal discs 28, 29 connected to the wires and applied to the skin of the wearer. In another arrangement, the ends of the strip 33, 34, Fig. 7, which is applied to the skin, are connected to metal strips 36, 37 on the opposite side of the plate. The strips 36, 37 are connected to terminals 48, 49 to which are connected chains the opposite ends of which are attached to the plate at the points 53, 54. The strips 33, 34 may be formed by electrolytic deposition in grooves in the plate.
