823,441. Submarines and hydrofoil craft. LEGAT, L. Feb. 27, 1957 [Feb. 29, 1956], No. 6559/57. Class 113. A surface and submarine craft has a hull 1 fitted with variable under-water supporting fins 21 to lift the hull clear of the water at high speeds and to control the depth when submerged, the fins being adjustable by hydraulic cylinders 24. An I.C. engine 2 is connected to a screw 3 for surface propulsion and an electric motor 4 drives a screw 29 for submerged propulsion. The hull is fitted with an electrical storage battery 6, an auxiliary compressor and generator unit 7, compressed air cylinders 8, an electric pump 9 for supplying hydraulic servomotors, an electric air extractor unit 26, hydraulic cylinders 25 to control the rudder 5 and an electric control panel 31. The craft is provided with an echo-sounding emitter 16, a periscope 15, an access hatch 18, radar antenna 17 and torpedo tubes 10. Two skids 23 controlled by hydraulic cylinders 22 are provided to support the craft on the sea bed.
