Abstract
822,196. Retractive switches. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd., J. Sept. 5, 1957 [Sept. 13, 1956], No. 27987/56. Class 38 (5). A foot-operated retractive switch comprises a slidable actuating member k secured to an operating cap m and upwardly urged by a spring n, a tiltable thrust piece q slidable on a necked portion s of the member k and downwardly urged relative to the member k by a spring t, and a pivoted contact-actuating arm c loaded by a spring d and carrying an insulating disc (not shown) bearing a bridging contact co-operating with fixed contacts. A peg v on the member k co-operates with a notch u on the thrust piece q. Depression of the cap m moves the member k and thrust piece q down until the lower end of the latter abuts an inclined face w on the contact-actuating arm c. Continued depression of the cap compresses the spring t and causes the peg v to engage the notch u thus tilting the thrust piece q so that its lower end engages in a notch x in the contact-actuating arm. The spring t then moves the thrust piece down to rotate the arm c with a snap-action.
