Abstract
822,133. Reciprocating pumps. KASTNER, O. M. Jan. 22, 1958 [May 23, 1957; Oct. 4, 1957], No. 2226/58. Class 102(1). [Also in Group XXIX] A piston is reciprocated in a cylinder by hydraulic fluid under pressure and suction acting on one side of the piston while the cylinder space on the other side of the piston acts as a pumping chamber for a viscid substance. The valve controlling the hydraulic fluid and the inlet and outlet of the pumping chamber are actuated by electric switches which are themselves controlled by the position of the piston. Fig. 2b shows one embodiment where the right hand side of the piston 2 moving in a cylinder 1 is the pumping chamber and the left hand side is under hydraulic pressure and suction. In the position shown left hand side is under suction and as the piston continues to move to the left a rod 35, attached to the piston, pushes a member 30 to actuate switch 37 this causes the valve gear controlling the hydraulic supply to feed pressure to the left hand side of the piston and also open the pump outlet valve and close the inlet valve. The piston 2 now moves to the right until a cord 36 tightens and pulls the member 30 to actuate switch 38 when the valve positions of the hydraulic supply and pump are reversed. In a modified form a permanent magnet is attached to the piston which actuates armatures controlling the switches positioned along the cylinder 1. In a further modification the piston presses a spring loaded lever at the left hand end of the cylinder to actuate one switch and the piston then moves to the right until it engages a stop. The hydraulic fluid causes an increase in pressure in the cylinder which moves on diaphragm to actuate the second switch. Two diaphragm actuated switches may be employed and in all cases the switches may be arranged inside the cylinder. Specification 755,677 is referred to.
