Abstract
Refractory composition comprises alumina and 5-70% of mixed crystals of carbides of Groups IV; V and VI. Preferred carbides are those of molybdenum and tungsten. 0,5-5,0% or iron group metallic alloys are added to the mixed crystals whilst they are being ground, forming a metallic film on the carbides which facilitates their subsequent sintering. Temporary organic binder are added to assist in moulding shapes which may be presintered, before final sintering in a reducing gas whilst packed in corundum.
