Abstract

A bearing comprises a metal backing element, a plurality of superposed bonded layers of filled polytetrafluorethylene built on to the backing element and an outer layer of unfilled P.T.F.E., the filling for the filled layers being silica, graphite or glass fibres. The backing element may be a wire mesh or relatively thin sheet provided with a multiplicity of interstices. A lubricant such as molybdenum disulphide may be incorporated in the filled P.T.F.E. or bonding agent.ALSO:A bearing comprises a metal backing element, a plurality of superposed bonded layers of filled polytetrafluorethylene built on to the backing element and an outer layer of unfilled P.T.F.E., the filling for the filled layers being silica, graphite or glass fibres. The backing element may be a wire mesh or relatively thin sheet provided with a multiplicity of interstices.
