Abstract
821,130. Bearings. ROESCH, A. Dec. 9, 1957 [Dec. 11, 1956], No. 38152/57. Class 12 (1). A bearing arrangement for supporting three rollers 8, 9, 10 for a rotary shaft 4 comprises a pair of axially-spaced supporting-members 11 each having a main portion 21 with two bearing openings 12, 13 for the rollers 8, 9 and a yielding annular part 22 which supports the third roller 10 and is connected to the main portion 21 by two yielding bridge portions 26. The latter are symmetrical to a second plane 28 passing through the axis of the annular part 22 perpendicular to the plane 24 and equidistant from the axes of the two bearing openings 12, 13 so that the shaft, when rotatably supported between the rollers 8, 9, 10 with its axis located in the second plane 28, is urged into frictional engagement with the rollers. The supporting members 11 are mounted within a tubular support 1 which is closed by end-plates 2, 3, and is preferably precision cast. The rollers 8, 9, 10 have flanges 5, 6, 7 which engage the shaft, the ends of the rollers which project through corresponding openings in the end-plate 3, carrying pulleys 17, 18, 19 which are embraced by a driving-belt, not shown. The two supporting members are secured against rotating movement in the tubular member 1, e.g. by screws 16, which project from slots 15 in the supporting plates 11, one of the latter preferably being movable in the axial direction to compensate for axial expansion. To increase the resiliency of the bridge portions 26, which have the effect of leaf springs, they may be corrugated as at 29. A filling 30, e.g. of oil-resistant rubber vulcanized to the supporting members 11, preferably fills the space between the supporting members 11 and the tubular support 1. In a modification, in order to render the pressure between the shaft 4 and the rollers independent of thermal expansion during operation, L-shaped bridge portions, which may have corrugations in their arms, are used. In a further modification the bridge portions 26 are inclined to extend in a substantially radial direction with respect to the annular part 22.
