[Also in Groups X and XXII] A strip of metal has longitudinally repeating patterns of incisions either side of its centre 4, each pattern defining ribbons 19 of metal which, when the strip is expanded to form a girder, constitute braces between the girder's upper boom (comprising the centre 4 of the strip) and lower booms (comprising the margins 16 of the strip), an end of each ribbon 19 lying alongside an end of the adjacent ribbon before expansion. With the operation of incision may also be effected the corrugation of the central axis and ribbons and the stamping of lobes 9 which may also be formed at the junction of the ribbons 19 with the lower booms 16. Simultaneously the central axis and the booms may be pulled apart to form the girder. Wooden spacing blocks, clips or ties may be fitted between the flanges of the booms and supporting members fitted thereon for reinforcing rods placed longitudinally inside the girder.
