An indicator for determining appropriate substances for and their method of use in removing stains from textiles, comprises a front carrier 1 having a window 2 for exposing the names of stains forming a group, a second window 4 for exposing a reference numeral for the group, a third arrow-shaped window 5 for exposing a generic term for the group, a plurality of holes 3 aligned with names of the substances and in. structions for their use, and a rear disc-shaped carrier 6 rotatably mounted on the carrier 1 and having a plurality of substantially equal marked sectors each sufficiently large to cover simultaneously all the windows and holes of the front carrier 1 and each having thereon the names, numeral, and term for the windows, and marks for some of the holes 3.
