Abstract

819,417. Cooling drills. POWER-GAS CORPORATION Ltd. (Braun & Co., C. F.). Dec. 7, 1957, No. 38113/57. Class 83 (3). A drill-adapter assembly for taper shank drills 4 comprises an adapter with a tapered shank 1 to fit a drill spindle socket, and with a part 2 having a tapered socket to receive the drill 4, and a cavity 6 in the socket, a non-rotary member 8 defining an annular chamber 17 and having a coolant inlet connection 18 communicating with the chamber, and one or more transverse channels 7 between the chamber 17 and the cavity 6, whereby coolant may be fed through one or more transverse and longitudinal passages 21-23 in the drill. The member 8 is retained between a collar 3 and a ring 11 secured, as by screws 12, to the end of part 2. Seals 9, 10 of resilient material which may be reinforced with metal are positioned at the ends of the chamber 17 by circlips 13, 14, Channels 15, 16 convey lubricant to the bearing surfaces of the member 8 on the part 2. The channels 22, 23 of helical form in the twist drill are formed axially in the drill blank before it is twisted.
