Class 100(2) An ink fountain for a printing press includes a rotatable fountain roller, a blade having an edge close to the roller and forming therewith a cavity for the ink supply, and outer side walls perpendicular to the roller and in scaling engagement with the outer ends of the blade, each wall comprising a roller-engaging shoe attached to a main wall portion, the end of which is slightly spaced from the shoe, resilient means between the shoe and wall portion being yieldable tc allow slight movement of the shoe relative to the wall portion in a radial direction to ensure snug fitting engagement of the shoe with the roller. The blade 13, Fig. 2, is secured to the upper part 14 of the fountain body 15, its overlapping portion being adjusted by thumbscrews 17. The part 14 is mounted on a lower part 16 by bolts 20 and slots 22 allowing limited movement whereby the blade is adjustable by screws 21 towards and away from the fountain roller 10. The side walls 19 of the fountain have main parts 23 to which are secured shoes 25, Figs. 2 and 6, of L-section, having concave portions fitting the ends of the periphery of the roller. Rubber strips 27 secured between the shoes and the parts 23 engage the edges of the blade, and also cause resilient engagement of the roller. Small pins 45 in the parts 23 dig into and retain the rubber strips. The shoes ate secured by bolts 26 allowing adjustment of the shoes in the planes of the walls 19. The fountain body, side walls, and blade are movable as a unit away from the roller for cleaning purposes by means of a toggle mechanism at each end of the fountain comprising a link 30, and a lever 32 fixed to a control shaft 33, Figs. 2 and 4, on which hangs loosely a handle 37. The lever 32 at one end has a tongue 36. To operate the mechanism, the handle 37 is swung clockwise. moved axially to engage the tongue 36 with a slot 38, and swung counterclockwise.
