Abstract

818,526. Artificial flowers. SPEAR, J. R. Feb. 28, 1957 [Feb. 28, 1956], No. 6192/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 63 A method of making an artificial flower consists in preparing a piece of material, e.g. felt in the shape of a bloom, making an aperture therethrough, passing through the aperture one or more threads each having on one end plastic material such as wax or clay to represent stamens or pistils, covering the parts of the thread which have passed through the aperture with adhesive and inserting them into the end of a flexible tube e.g. of polyvinyl chloride, to form the stalk whereby some of the adhesive is driven up the threads to meet the underside of the flower and cause the latter to adhere to the end of the tube. The stamen ends may be made by dipping the threads into wax or clay and the flower may be cut out from felt, slit and stitched to form a concave flower bent up around the stamens. Another piece of felt cut to the shape of a leaf or leaves may be formed with a portion which is stitched around the stem. The various parts and materials used may be made up into a flower making toy set.
