818,196. Valves. AUSTIN MOTOR CO. Ltd., BROWN, R. J., SWAIN, G. E., and MILES, W. L. Jan. 22, 1958 [Jan 26, 1957], No 2889/57. Class 7(6) [Also in Group XXII] A poppet valve for an internal combustion engine is made by sleeving a ring or open-ended tube 12 of protective non - ferrous alloy on to one reduced end 11 of a rod 10 which is to constitute the valve stem, eletrically upsetting said end portion to produce a bulbous head with a belt of the alloy welded thereto and then hot forging said head to valve head form with the weldedon alloy 14 coating the valve seat and the peripheral portions only of the valve head. The valve head 13 is then ground or machined to produce the seating surface 15.
