Abstract
A method of using the portable flange-forming tool of the parent Specification comprises placing an unflanged thermoplastic pipe in the tool with a length of pipe protruding, applying a setting device to the protruding pipe end to force it into the segmented collar of the tool until the portion of the pipe left protruding is of a length determined by the setting device, removing the setting device and operating the tool. A washer with inwardly protruding prongs may be placed on the pipe before the setting device so that, on moulding the washer forms the back face of the flange formed on the pipe. The setting device may be a metal sleeve with a bore for the mandrel of the tool and a bore for the thermoplastic pipe, the two bores at their junction forming an internal shoulder which contacts the end of the pipe and pushes it into the segmented collar until the end of the device contacts the collar. This end of the device may have a recess for the washer.
