817,833. Photo-electric inspection. LICENCIA TALALMANYOKAT ERTEKESITO VALLALAT. Sept. 20, 1955 [Sept. 24, 1954], No. 26796/55. Class 40 (3). [Also in Group IX] In order to determine the staple-lengths present in a sample of cotton fibre it is fed to an intermittently operated stationary staple laying device 8, of specified type having suitable drive mechanism. The laying device places the fibres on a uniformly moving dark plush band 1 in such a way that they are in a series of groups of fibres, each group consisting of fibres of the same length and containing fibres longer than those in the preceding group. As the band 1 moves round, driven by motor 5, the groups of yarns pass through a beam of light from lamp 7. The more fibres there are in a group the greater the intensity of the light reflected and consequently the higher the electrical output from observing photo-electric cell 9. The output from cell 9 is amplified at 11 and fed to a recording device 10 which produces a diagram showing the numbers of fibres in the different length groups. When there are no further fibres on the band ], the amplifier output drops to zero and a relay is de-energized and breaks the circuit of lamp 7.
