Class 79(3) [Also in Group XXXII] In a three-axled railway bogie having a transverse bolster structure 2, 3, 4, 5, Figs. 1 and 2, between the middle axle and each end axle, an electric motor 21, 24 has its mountings solely on the bogie frame between the middle axle and each bolster structure and has a longitudinal drive shaft 22, 25 extending beneath the level of the bolster structure and connected to the axle at the opposite side of the bolster structure. As further shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the bogie frame comprises longitudinals 1, the bolster structures 2, 3, 4, 5, end members 6, 7 and pedestal legs 8 receiving axle boxes 9 of wheel and axles assemblies 10, 11, equalizers 12 extending between the boxes 9 and provided with springs 13 abutting the frame which may be fabricated or a one-piece casting. Pivotally suspended from the ends of the bolster structures 2, 3 and 4, 5 are swing hangers 14 carrying spring planks supporting bolster springs 16, the bolster 17, 18, 19 being H-shaped. and the bolster part 19 carrying a plate 20 supporting the vehicle body (not shown). To longitudinal frame members 30, 31 between the structures 3, 4 are bolted the motors 21, 24 connected by the drive shafts 22, 25 to gear casings 23, 26 on the end axles 11. To longitudinal frame members 32, 33 connecting the bolster structure 5 and the member 7 is bolted a motor 27 connected by shafting 28 to a gear casing 29 on the middle axle 11. Each gear casing has an arm 39, Fig. 4, connected to the adjacent transom by a bolt 40 and springs 41, 42. In another embodiment, Figs. 5 to 7, (not shown), the invention is applied to a bogie frame in which the bolster structures merge to form a body supporting bolster rigid with the rest of the frame. In a further embodiment, Fig. 8 (not shown), the vehicle body is pivoted to the bogie frame between the middle axle and one end axle and has sliding bearing contacts with the bogie frame at two points between the middle axle and the other end axle. In another embodiment, Fig. 11, the end axles 100, 101 are driven through gearing 112, 113 and shafting 110, 111 from motors 102 mounted on both sides of a central pivotal connection 108 between the bogie frame and vehicle body.
