Abstract
The invention comprises bismuth salts of aliphatic a -amino carboxylic acids and the preparation thereof by reacting moist bismuth hydroxide with a solid aliphatic a -aminocarboxylic acid. Preferred acids are glycine, alanine, valine, norvaline, lipine, arginine and glutamic acid. In examples, bismuth hydroxide, as a moist gel and prepared from an acid solution of the nitrate by the addition of ammonia, is mixed with glycine to give bismuth dihydroxy glycinate, and bismuth triglycinate or with glutamic acid to give tetrahydroxy dibismuth glutamate. The moist bismuth hydroxide may be prepared by treating the sulphate or the chloride with sodium hydroxide or ammonia, and the final bismuth amino acid salt as a gel is preferably spray dried to form a powder.
