A carton for holding articles for display is made from a cardboard blank and formed at its rear part with a recess to receive the edge of a shelf or like support whereby it can project outwardly stably supported by the shelf. In one embodiment, Figs. 1 and 2, a tray-like structure is folded up from a blank as shown, so that recesses 25 are formed, the shape of these recesses ensuring that the weight of articles in the carton make for a tight and stable engagement. In another embodiment, a blank as in Fig. 4 is first folded to tubular shape, its final form being rectangular with a tray-like portion at its upper part. A further embodiment, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), is in the form of a deep carton having a bottom of interlocking flaps hinged to tube-forming panels. A still further embodiment, Figs 8-10. (not shown), provides a transport carton formed in known manner and having a recess defined only by perforations, so that by removing the part defined and folding in the lid portions, a display carton of similar type to those described is available.
