Abstract
815,135. Binding-posts. WINGROVE & ROGERS Ltd. Nov. 7, 1957 [Nov. 17, 1956], No. 35213/56. Class 38 (1). A lead-through or stand-off insulated terminal, comprising a central conducting pin having a roughened medial portion connected to a portion of reduced diameter by a tapering portion and an insulating sleeve surrounded by a metallic collar, is mounted by inserting the sleeve and collar in a panel hole and forcing the centre pin into the sleeve so as to expand the collar and lock the assembly in the hole. The metallic collar 12 has a flange 12b which abuts the panel 13 a smaller flange 12c having chamfered sides by which it is retained in the panel, and it is split to enable it to expand. The insulated sleeve 11 may be of a plastic such as polytetrafluorethylene and as a flange 11a which abuts the flange 12b of a collar 12. The central pin 10, which may be of brass, has a narrow portion 10c, a tapering portion 10d and a knurled or roughened portion 10b. On assembly the sleeve 11 and collar 12 are inserted into the hole in the panel 13 and then the pin 10 is forced through the sleeve 11 until a flange 10a on the pin 10 abuts the flange 11a. The expansion of the sleeve 11 at 11b prevents it being withdrawn and the pin 10 is retained by the roughened surface 10b. The ends of the pin 10 may be screw threaded and provided with nuts or drilled to constitute sockets; for use as a stand-off insulator one end may be shortened.
