Abstract
813,920. Coated fabrics. HARKNESS Ltd., A. S. Feb. 13, 1957 [April 6, 1956], No. 10511/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 140. [Also in Group XX] A projection screen comprises a screen base coated with a lacquer containing an ingredient of a lamellar or plate-like crystalline structure having both high refractive index and high reflectivity, said ingredient consisting of bismuth oxychloride. The screen base may be formed of a single strip or of a plurality of strips of fabric or sheet of polyvinylchloride. Advantageously the base should be white and if it is not made from white material it may be coated with a white glass pigment consisting of titanium dioxide mixed in a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer binder lacquer. This coating is then covered with several overlapping coatings of the bismuth oxychloride lacquer. Preferably the bismuth oxychloride is mixed with a solution of a colourless resin and this paste is then mixed into a polyvinyl lacquer comprising copolymerized vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate dispersed in ketones and aromatic hydrocarbons. The coatings may be sprayed or applied by roller.
