Abstract

813,665. Sealing electric lamps. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. June 4, 1957 [June 27, 1956], No. 17781/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(2) In a method for sealing and tipping off the exhaust tube of a glass envelope filled with gas at a pressure above atmospheric e.g. gas-filled electric lamps such as photo flash bulbs, a portion of the tube is heated sufficiently to soften the glass but not to rupture it by the internal gas pressure, the softened portion is pinched closed, and the tube below the pinch is then exhausted and heated to cause it to flow into a gas tight seal, being finally tipped off. During the heating below the pinch, the tube may be stretched.
