Abstract
813,125. Making thin sheets of barium titanate, &c. ELECTRIC MACHINERY MFG. CO. March 22, 1956, No. 8947/56. Class 87(2). A ceramic slip of, e.g. barium, lead or strontium titanate and a liquid polyvinyl chloride resin, in a hopper 31 is cast into a thin sheet on an endless metal belt 10, without the use of a doctor blade, by inclining upwardly that part of the belt beneath the hopper. The belt is sprayed with a parting agent, e.g. mineral oil, by a nozzle 20, and then heated by radiant heaters 24, 25 to cause a thin layer of the slip to polymerize on the belt. The thickness of the sheet may be controlled by varying the temperature of the belt. The cast sheet is polymerised by electric heaters 46, removed from the belt by a knife 51, cut to form electrical components and sintered. The level of the slip in the hopper is kept constant by supplying slip from a hopper 32. Wipers prevent escape of slip between the belt and the hopper 31.
