812,916. Friction-grip fastenings. LIMIT ENGINEERING GROUP Ltd., [formerly LIMIT ENGINEERING CO. Ltd.]. April 25, 1956 [April 25, 1955], No. 11900/55. Class 44 A locking device for a telescopic pedestal comprises a tubular collar 12 adapted to be made fast around the upper end of an outer tube 13 forming part of the pedestal, a locking plate 17 mounted on the upper end of the collar 12 for pivoted movement about an axis transversed to the axis of the collar by a pair of fulcrum means 22 disposed one on each side of the axis of the collar, the locking plate 17 having an aperture 18 for receiving with a snug sliding fit an inner tube or rod-like element 11 for the pedestal, and resilient means 29 for urging the locking plate into a locking position in which the axis of its aperture is inclined to the axis of the tubular collar, the axis about which the locking plate pivots on the fulcrum means passing through the inner tube or rod-like element 11. As shown, the plate is released from the tilted end locking position against a spring loaded ball 31.
