Abstract

812,759. Comminuting synthetic resins. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 17, 1957 [May 7, 1956], No. 14045/56. Class 87(2). Strips of solid synthetic resinous material are passed between two rollers 1, 1<SP>1</SP> at least one of which is driven and each of which has teeth 2, 2<SP>1</SP> around its circumference that are rectangular in cross-section and mesh with those of the other but do not project to the full depth of the gaps between the teeth, the strips being as a result forced into the gaps and sheared into particles. These particles are expelled from the gaps before the latter again reach the engaging position. For this purpose, bars 6, 6<SP>1</SP> urged against the bases of the gaps by garter springs (not shown) are pushed outwardly, as the rollers 1, 1<SP>1</SP> rotate by rods 7, 7<SP>1</SP> which bear against the rotating eccentric rollers 4, 4<SP>1</SP>. In an alterntaive arrangement, the bars extend beyond the ends of the toothed rollers and are pushed outwards by means of ramps.
