Abstract

812,107. Moulding tyres. HAMMESFAHR, G. Aug. 2, 1957, No. 24495/57. Class 87(2). Tyre vulcanizing apparatus comprises a multi-part mould 1, 4, a heating tube 3 for internally heating the tyre 2 and subjecting it to internal pressure, and a radiant heating mantle 9 embracing the mould to provide external heating, at least part, e.g. a hinged upper portion, of the mantle, -being movable relatively to the mould to provide access to the latter. Heating medium is conducted to the tube 3 through pipes 7. The mantle 9 which is preferably electrically heated to provide infra red radiation, covers only a sector of the mould and is revolved around the mould by an electric motor 16 through bevel gears 15, gear 14 and toothed ring 12. The electric heating elements may be controlled so that the different parts of the tyre receive radiation in accordance with their thicknesses. Thermometers 11 are fitted in the lower half 4 of the mould, and the apparatus is enclosed by a cover 20. In a modified construction the heating mantle extends completely around the circumference of the mould and has tubular heating elements extending over a sector only thereof. The heating elements are arranged in groups which may be switched in or out independently by a thermostat control system.
