In a closure arrangement a polyethylene cap 32 with an internal annular bead 40 to engage beneath the bead 44 of the bottle 36 has integral with it a ring 48 joined by a narrow section 50 which is fractured by downward pressure on the ring when the cap is applied, the ring moving over the cap to embrace the cap flange and cause it to grip the bottle. In a modification, Fig. 5a, the ring 48 extends above the cap and has a groove 51 receiving a disc 53 on which is advertising or identification matter. In another modification the ring has an integral tab to assist removal. In a further modification, Fig. 7, flexible strips 70 interconnect several closures and are in turn interconnected by strips 72 to form a carrying handle for several bottles. In another modification. Fig. 12, the cap 32f is held on a wide mouth container frictionally instead of engaging beneath the bead 42f and has itself a circumferential bead 76 which engages a groove 78 in ring 48f. In apparatus for applying the closures, Fig. 15, the containers are passed on a conveyer 80 beneath a roller 82 which engages the rings 48f and forces them over the caps 32f.
