Abstract
810,661. Vacuum-jacketed vessels. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. Feb. 7. 1957 [Feb. 7, 1956], No. 3818/56. Class 64(2) [Also in Group XL(a)] A vacuum jacket for enclosing a metal vapour discharge lamp has vitreous coaxial inner and outer walls 1, 2 joined together at one end 3 to form a sealed enclosure, the inner wall 1 at its end remote from the joint, being centred with respect to the outer wall 2 by a metal wire frame 4 which engages the opposing walls 1, 2 and to which is secured at least one frame member 9 carrying, or which is in part formed of, getter material and located so as to confine the getter material when vaporized, e.g. by induction, to the end portions of the walls of the jacket remote ' from the joint. A metal cap 11 can be cemented to the end of the jacket to protect the sealedoff exhaust tubulation 10. According to the Provisional Specification the member 9 can be a rectangular frame or plate containing barium and/or aluminium getter material.
