810,364. Ball and roller bearings. FRANKE, E., [trading as FRANKE & HEYDRICH KOMM.-GES.]. Dec. 7, 1956 [April 30, 1956], No. 37527/56. Class 12 (1). A ball and roller bearing comprises alternately arranged balls 1 and rollers 2 forming a ring of rolling elements disposed between wire race surfaces in an outer race 8 and an inner race 9. The balls 1 run on spring steel wires 61 ... 64 and the rollers 2 on flat steel wires 7. The rolling elements are located in a two-part cage 3, the parts 3<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>3</SP> of the cage being held together by rivets 3<SP>3</SP>. Labyrinth seals 12 are disposed between the outer and inner races. The outer race ring may be in two parts held together by axially extending bolts. In a modification, the roller race surfaces consist of wires 107, Fig. 4, arranged side by side and a cage 103 has axially extending apertures. In other modifications, the outer race surfaces are carried by wedge-shaped members to facilitate adjustment. The number of cylindrical rollers and balls may be chosen in accordance with the load occurring, for example 75 per cent cylindrical rollers and 25 per cent balls may be used.
