Abstract

809,965. Fourdrinier paper-making machines &c. ST. ANNE'S BOARD MILL CO., Ltd. May 9, 1957 [May 12, 1956], No 14856/56. Class 96. In a Fourdrinier paper-making machine wherein the wire-cloth 21 and the paper-pulp thereon are overlaid by an upper, travelling wire-cloth 4, thus preventing a tapering gap 22, in which pulp is compressed, water expressed upwardly through the wire-cloth 4 is swept upwardly over an inclined board 8 and into a trough 10 which is drained at 14, with the aid of a rapidly rotating brush roll 1 which also cleans the surface of the roll 5. The board 8 also depresses the wire-cloth 4 to limit the end of the tapering gap 22, the lower edge-portion 8A of the board 8 being replaceable, e.g. when worn. After passing the trough 10, the web may be subjected to suction from an upper box, and then to a succession of wet pressings before leaving the wire-cloths 4, 21. In making multiple-ply webs, a fibrous web being formed beneath the wire-cloth 4 is interfelted with a formed web on the wire-cloth 21. A filler-piece 20 may be inserted adjacent to the roll 5 and wire-cloth 4. Water may be removed from the brush roll 1 by an adjustable doctor 16.
