Abstract

809,832. Welding by fusion and pressure. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Jan. 18, 1957, No. 1988/56. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXXVI] The ends of two wires 2, 3 of aluminium or aluminium alloy are connected by pushing the ends into a metal sleeve 1 and holding them in slight axial compression and then heating the wire ends so that fusion of the metal occurs. The sleeve is, for example, of copper, nickel or steel and heating is effected by applying an electrical heating device to the central portion of the sleeve. Holes 4, 5 in the sleeve permit extrusion of the metal of the wires. Insulating tape may be applied on the sleeve when the connection has been made.
